Why do Red Staters feel that they can lecture people of NYC(Blue State) on terrorism?

I live 12 blocks from Ground Zero and my entire family saw, heard, and smelled the attack from our apartment windows. And for years since, I have Republicans in the Red States telling me that New Yorkers are soft and that we don't understand terror.......Why?
